Lame

So i ripped on davis already for this, but why not again since he likes her music. I saw feist, on the colbert report tonight and was embarrassed for her. She plays the guitar terribly, on top of that she just babbles for lyrics, and makes odd noises like the sound of sea creatures mating. I know this because i frequently visit saltwater aquariums during the mating season. But that is neither here nor there. Feist looks like she needs a shower on the colbert report. In the only video i could find of this song, she looks decent in it, thankfully. But the song is still the oddest thing in the world. Can a man like this music and metallica at the same time? I sometimes feel like davis is like the king of rohan in lord of the rings. Like there is someone whispering poison into his ears,(feist) and his taste is getting worse and worse. We need some gandalf to come and magically rid him of Feist Wormtongue. here is the video, if you wanna witness something Lame.

Campfire Guitar Out of Control

So andy sent me this link to this video of this erik mongrain dude, and i hated it.
I dont deny the intense skill involved. I just think there is no aesthetic value to anything like that. Its like, 'Let me get so good on the guitar, that i turn it into some complex melodic elevator tune.' And that was all it was. It was incredibly talented crap. It was the equivalent of reading a book on the theory of relativity to your friends for entertainment. While incredibly skilled, boring to hear. People would rather you read to them about the greatest prison breaks, funny jokes, best of paul harvey stories, etc. Music is suppost to be exciting and entertaining. This guy while he might be entertaining around a campfire, whipping out an acoustic and displaying a huge wow-factor, has no appeal past the first play. Its like "wow, he can do that percussive slappy thing with the guitar on his lap and it sounds rad, but im ready for someone pull out that same acoustic guitar and play some collective soul,aerosmith, or acdc. here it is

Its in its bare bones of riffage. I will probably have the finished product at some point. I was just screwin around on it, changing tempos switching things seeing how i felt about it. Its kind of a mess.For now, this is the idea at hand.

Man this is easier than i thought

Here is yet another. I thought maybe my post was hastey and that i should listen to some more Raconteurs to make sure there might be a really original bone in their bodies, but no. Here is the next example.

If there is a Snake in the Grass.....

I will smoke him out. I brought my smoke today, when i heard attention, a song davis was telling me to listen to while trying to convince me i would love the Raconteurs because their riffs are SO original and so unique. Well turns out Attention is a ripoff of Rage against the Machines "Bombtrack". The only differences in the riff are the trill jack white does to start the riff, he uses one different note and gives it a giddyup horsey gallop rhythm for the first part but follows the exact pattern tom morrello used in bombtrack but reverses it, by ascending the riff before decsending it. My Point is not that Jack white found this rage song and thought how can i change it, and use it as my own. I dont think he did that. I do think, he probably heard the rage song from time to time and had it in his subconsious, and it kinda floated out of his fingers in a very similar riff. Which brings us to my point, He is not that original at all, it seems like most of his riffs are like this, very similar to other bands riffs. Which is fine, if you like those other riffs, its like hearing a cover album with a hyena singing instead. Jack white as far as originality goes, only gets my vote on his solos. Those are very original and unique to his name. But never did i say they were good. You decide here they are.

Supergay

Davis did it again. Somehow he managed to lose us money on our project this year. Im pretty sure he somehow flew back and forth from newark to thwart an early sale of the home. I also have suspicions that he managed to make a quick flight back to mess up our closing this last friday, by tampering with a few things on the house, so i fixed his mess and we finally closed this tuesday. Davis is sneaky, we wont underestimate his abilites this next time around.

Not So Davis, Not So

For as long as i can remember, davis has always maintained that Metallica's "Fade to Black" and "the unforgiven" sound exactly the same. Well they clearly dont aside from one guitar slide at the end of the main riff, both intros slide up on the same note by happenstance. But for once i will post both videos together so everyone can listen to how different of songs they are. One has soft verses with hard choruses, and the other is a flip flop it has distorted heavy huge verses, with quiet choruses. They are like polar opposites.

A Thought

I have seen this picture before, but it was a while ago. I saw it again in the rad video below, and i really appreciated the thought that was being presented there. Kinda put a different perspective on things we know and have read, but maybe never thought about a whole lot, or related to the present.

Dont question it

When they can write something rad like this, you dont doubt the softer side of things. this riff stomps the big one.and the guy can solo as well.

Once Again

I posted this song a year ago or so. And was thinking about it again today. So im gonna post it again. I think its still one of the greatest christian songs to date. And it has the flow to it that no other song has. I enjoy this video as well. Enjoy.

Found Another One

This song is one of my favorites. Rhythmically and compositionally one of the greats from incubus, and one of the greats from the entire genre of rock.

TOOL

I have always maintained that Tool is a lame band with some decent riffs. Well I spent the last 2 hours listening to a bunch of their stuff. I usually dont admit that i was wrong about anything unless i really am or feel that me conceeding will benefit any party involved. I dont think conceeding will benefit anyone in this case, but since im a nice guy I will say, that after listening to hours of Tool and after hearing riff after riff, I realized that tool is a lame band with some decent riffs.

I found that Rhythmically they arent that good. which everyone brags on. They are all good musicians. But they do the same few variations of rhythmic intricacie over and over throughout all their songs. In fact I found a few songs schism and vicarious use the almost the same theme rhytmically and with notes. Almost the same riff.they are a little bit different in their style, but the up beats of each riff shares the same notation, as well as the drumming theme is almost the same in these songs as the drumming is in every song. The guitarist is a decent one, but he and the bassist like hitting everything on the off beat, for that matter maybe the whole band likes accenting those notes. Everything is pretty much in half time or just a slow tempo with a lot of notes inbetween so it sounds like more is going on than actually is. The drummer is definitely the most talented in the band, but even he is repetitive like no other. he loves to do a sweet tom fill so that every time it lands on the "+" beat. being the off beat, the up beat or whatever you call it yourself. But not only that, he almost always ends a fill with a double kick flammed into a snare/crash combo. The guy is talented but not creative past the odd rhythm. I have always known these things from hearing a couple songs, and based my opinion of tool on a few songs alone. I thought well maybe its time to see if that was an inaccurate assessment. It wasnt. Tool bores me, but at the same time, if they come on the radio i would rather hear them than most of the terrible crap on the radio. they have a strong tight rhythm section which i guess just falls into solid heterosexuality. I can head nod to them in the car if they are on the radio and not feel unmanly. But as far as ever thinking, i wish i could rewind that it was so rad, that rarely happens with tool. Of all their songs, i found this one to be the most enjoyable. It is the most well rounded song. Normally they have a good riff, lame singing. Or a decent riff, ok singing and a wicked bridge or some other unbalance in the song structure. But this song is probably the most even as far as decent singing,riff, and bridge. In fact the bridge, at like 4:30 kicks ass. but they only decide to kick that donkey for like 15 seconds which sucks, because i coulda heard that jive for like 3 mins.

My Opus

I have been working on all these songs below and nothing has come together like i have said. All these recordings are not polished by any means, i just threw the ideas out there. Obviously there are transition/timing/ problems and just plain mistakes. This particular song, i cant figure out, i put all the parts here, but they dont have transitions written yet so try to separate them in your mind. If anyone has ideas, they are welcome. I had a solo worked up at the end, and i batched it hardcore its not even funny. But im too lazy and dont care to rerecord. I just wanted to give a sample. Ignore everything after 3:30seconds in the video. Or just watch it more closely now that i pointed it out and laugh.

Odd song

I cant figure where i pulled this out of. I made it up right before i recorded it, so it doesnt really follow. But i thought it had enough merit as a rad idea to save in the archives.

My video game song

Its a standard riff that the walkdown thingy gets used a lot, but i like it and want to incorperate it into something somehow, and i havent figured it out either.

This one i like, but cant remeber if i posted before. I still strugle with the hameroff or pulloff whatever you call it. i cant do it quite fast enough either, but the idea is there.
